Me...and My Hat

I began this hat in the heat of the desert, planning ahead for the chilly fall and cold winter in my future. Like most knitting projects of mine, this one sat untouched for quite awhile while we moved, unpacked, and tried to settle into a routine. September has brought me more time to create and as I revel in my first Autumn in too many years, the need to knit returned to my fingers. I finished it last week.

Have you ever tried taking self-portraits? It is an act of courage. Of course I look in the mirror everyday, but it's usually just a moment's glance, constant movement, only in passing. In other words, no time to study and really see. Capturing yourself on the screen is a bit different. There you are frozen in time and available for self-criticism. I took at least 20 shots to get these two, and all the usual stuff jumped out at me. Instead of give you (and me) the list of things I'm not so happy with, let's focus on what I do love.

1. I love the colors in the yarn.
2. I love the warmth of the wool and how un-itchy it is.
3. I love the happiness in my eyes.
4. I love that I'm standing in front of art that my sister and I created together. It was the beautiful product of an otherwise pretty awful couple of days for both of us. I love that we made something lovely despite it all.
5. I love the Walden filter on Instagram. It's made the harsh overhead light dreamy.
6. I love that I took some new pictures of myself. It's been awhile.

Be brave. Take some photos of yourself this weekend. Focus on what you love.
You are worth it.
