I went kayaking yesterday for the first time in my life. I was nervous, but like most new things I am brave enough to try, I loved it. I can't wait to go again! That's me in the orange kayak below, black paddle high, headed through the salt marsh. When I look at these pictures of the coastal waters I love so much, I have to keep reminding myself, "WE LIVE HERE!"
Seven Things I Loved About Yesterday's Paddle Trip
1. the sight of all those colorful boats lined up on the shore waiting to go...it was a kayak rainbow!
2. how powerful I was when I remembered to push the paddle with my top arm while pulling with the bottom one
3. the cool water dripping off my paddle onto my sun-warmed legs
4. the quiet of the marsh...birds calling, shrimp splashing, and the dip and scoop of our paddles into and out of the water
5. I got to Bear Island and back using only my own two arms.
6. the water, the water, the water
7. I went by myself and tried something new. Yay me!

I can imagine the quiet of the water. It makes me very jealous and very happy for you. Way to show up and be brave. Sign me up for a birthday paddle!
