We had a grilled cheese bar for our New Year's Eve Dinner. OH. MY. GOODNESS. Surely a new family tradition was born. The idea came from this article in Southern Living's December 2012 issue. The only thing we were missing was a panini maker. Lee grilled each of our creations perfectly in a pan, but he would have spent less time at the stove and more time at the table with us had we had the proper appliance.
The breads...rosemary & olive oil and a baguette
The cheeses...Smoked Gouda, Horseradish, Brie, Sharp Cheddar, and Asiago
The spreads...hot pepper jelly, Dijon mustard, and honey mustard
The toppings...thinly sliced Gala apples, crisp applewood smoked bacon, chopped walnuts, and caramelized onions
It was an easy meal to prepare and definitely a fun one to share with a group.
