Choosing one word as my intention for the year really works for me. It gives me a jumping off point, a direction to head in, and a filter through which I approach my life.
In 2011, it was complete.
2012 was my year of truth. I worked on telling my truth, even when it felt vulnerable. I tried to speak truth into my relationships, giving voice to my feelings and making my needs known out loud. Perhaps the biggest growth I experienced was in hearing the truths being spoken inside me. I made a conscious effort to stop and listen to what it was I truly wanted and needed in any given situation, and I tried to honor that. There's definitely still room for growth, and I'm not going to leave truth behind, but I've chosen a new word for this year. It came to me as a direct result of tuning in to my own truth. 2013's word is linger.
linger: verb.
1. to remain or stay on in a place longer than is usual or expected, as if from reluctance to leave
2. to dwell in contemplation, thought, or enjoyment
3. to move slowly
I want to sit down and put my feet up...daily. Give myself space for more being and less doing. Continue with my near daily rest hour...reading, and falling asleep when necessary :) Go to bed earlier, so I can wake up earlier...I love nothing more than a hot chai latte, a book, and a quiet house. More poetry...words that beg to be lingered over. Less internet (and iPhone)...they make me feel fidgety and unfocused. Getting lost in the details of magazines and pretty books. Knitting. Snuggling. And something I've never been overly fond of, but would like to give another try...hot baths.
Relish. Enjoy. Create space. Notice.
Hello, LINGER. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you better.

Oooooh, I've been looking forward to this post. I chose "acceptance" for myself. And I sent you a tiny something yesterday that might be nice to linger with for a bit. Hooray for lingering through 2013!
