I love to read people's book lists. I love to know what they've read and what they think about it, or what they're planning to read. A couple of weeks ago I posted this picture on Flickr and had such a fun conversation about books with a couple of kind strangers. I keep a running list on Amazon of books I'd like to read. Here are a few at the top of that list:
Where'd You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple
I've been looking for something funny to read ever since I spent a couple days last year laughing over this book. Bernadette looks like it just might be the one I'm looking for, and if not, the author of Attachments has a new book due out early in 2013.
The Kitchen Diaries by Nigel Slater
I love reading memoirs about food. Although this is technically a cookbook, I think it has enough story woven throughout it to qualify. It's just been re-released in the US, and I'm looking forward to finally having a chance to read it.
The House of Belonging by David Whyte
I keep running across recommendations for Whyte's poetry, but I've never read any myself. 2012 has been a year of poetry for me, so I'm eager to have this book land on my bedside table.
Listening for Madeleine by Leonard Marcus
Madeleine L'Engle's nonfiction ranks right up there with Anne Lamott in my mind. I identify with her thoughts on spirituality and love reading about her writing life. This is a book of interviews by the people who knew her well...friends, family, and colleagues. I'm anxious to curl up with it on a cold, lazy Sunday this winter.

Nice! Yesterday, I got Anne's prayer book and another one about a Neurosurgeon's near death experience of heaven...but I also got very annoyed with myself that I can't pick out anything light and fun. I shall run and get Attachments right away!
