I did it! 30 days of photos (and a few words) documenting my days as they are right now. I really liked having something to post on my blog every single day...surely the most active month any online space of mine has seen since I became a mama. I love that I used my big camera almost daily for the month of November. Only three days out of 30 did I post an iPhone picture. My phone is certainly easier, and I'm a sucker for the Instagram filters, but playing with my Nikon rekindled my love for it as well. Another bonus of the challenge was I more than doubled the amount of photos taken than in previous months.
I learned a few things during the month too. Having my Nikon out and accessible made it much more likely that I'd pick it up and use it. The process was much more fun when I started taking photos earlier in the day, rather than waiting until night time when I was tired and my brain was too fried to think creatively. Interestingly enough (but probably not surprising), I usually had the words for the day pretty much nailed down even before I had settled on a photo to post.
Sometimes (especially on the nights I waited until too late), I'd wander around the house, camera in hand, but with zero inspiration. I would come up to my computer and visit the habit flickr pool. I loved looking at all those photos of other women's ordinary lives...kitchen sinks, laundry baskets, desks, the view out their windows. On more than one evening I had to remind myself how much I enjoyed their everyday photos because even though they were ordinary to them, they weren't to me. I had to look at my surroundings through others' eyes and see the ordinary details of my life as interesting. Who doesn't love a glimpse through someone else's window?
Perhaps the most exciting part of this month was that quite a few of my photo and word pairings were featured on the habit blog. Such an honor to be in the company of my most favorite bloggers who are regulars over there.
So November, you were all about the pictures. December, your challenge will be the words. More on that soon...
